Raised bridge results in Brown, Purple Line service interruptions

Posted: Updated:
CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

A raised bridge over the Chicago River near the Merchandise Mart station has halted service on the Brown and Purple line between the Mart and the Loop Wednesday afternoon.

As a result, Brown Line trains operated in two sections, between Kimball and the Mart and in the Loop only, according to a CTA rider alert, until the bridge had been lowered again. Purple Line trains also operated only between Linden and the Mart and in the Loop.

The alert was issued about 2:30 p.m. The bridge was up for at least 40 minutes, but by about 3:30 p.m., the bridge was back in its usual position, though the CTA advised riders to expect some residual delays.
