ATLANTA -

Authorities say an elementary school student at a playground was struck by a falling tree limb on Thursday.

According to Atlanta police, the incident happened at Morris Brandon Elementary School located at 2741 Howell Mill Road.

Police say the student was conscious and alert when he was transported to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite.

For some, the incident brought back memories of Tripp Halstead, the 2-year-old Winder boy who was severely injured after a tree limb struck him in the head last October outside his daycare.

However, Thursday was not a windy day, the limb at Brandon Elementary was not as large as the one that struck Tripp, who suffered a serious brain injury according to doctors.

A team of inspectors could be seen walking the school grounds after Thursday's incident with their eyes alert to any other potential dangers.
