Flooding closes down suburban Chicago government

WHEATON, Ill. (FOX 32 News) -

Heavy rains and flooding have prompted a suburban Chicago county to shut down all government buildings.

The (Arlington Heights) Daily Herald reports the DuPage County closings include the health department and the judicial center.

DuPage County spokeswoman Johnna Kelley says the buildings will reopen "when conditions allow."

A rainstorm that pummeled the area caused flooding that also forced authorities to close sections of several major expressways around Chicago.

Schools have been canceled and several hundred flights were scrapped at O'Hare International Airport, where Thursday's storm has dumped more than 5 inches of rain.

Two more inches was expected throughout the day.
