Saturday funeral services to be held for Jacoby Dickens

Chicago has lost a financial titan who paved the way for African Americans in banking and business.

Jacoby Dickens was the long-time chairman and president of Seaway Bank and Trust, one of the largest black-owned financial institutions in the country.

At Seaway, he said the bank should be a community partner and it is often credited with shoring up the black middle-class in neighborhoods like Chatham.

An entrepreneur and a philanthropist, Dickens donated over a million dollars to Chicago State University, where the athletic center bears his name.

He is survived by his wife Veranda. Jacoby Dickens was 82.

Visitation will be Saturday, April 20 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., followed by funeral services from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Chicago State University's Jones Convocation Center, 9501 S. King Drive.
