PARK CITY, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

Charges against a 14-year-old Waukegan youth in connection with the stabbing of a 29-year-old north suburban Park City man who died Thursday are expected to be upgraded.

"We have a pretty quiet town. We haven't had a homicide in about 9 years," said Police Chief Walter Holderbaum.

He said he expects the charges to be updated at the juvenile's next court hearing, which he didn't immediately know. The suspect could be charged as an adult or a juvenile.

The victim, identified as Fausto Reynaga of Park City by Deputy Chief Orlando Tortillo of the Lake County Coroner's office, died of complications from stab wounds.

The victim and the 14-year-old, who is being held on charges of aggravated battery, were involved in an altercation March 29 in a Park City apartment in the 4200 block of Greenleaf Street. Police received a 9-1-1 call from a man saying "someone is trying to kill me."

When Park City police arrived they found the 29-year-old on the floor with multiple stab wounds. He was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center, Libertyville, and went into emergency surgery.

He died Thursday morning around 6:45 a.m. at the hospital, authorities said.

During the investigation, police learned the man had been involved in a verbal altercation with a 14-year-old who had fled the scene and was hiding in Waukegan for three days when police developed information on where he was staying.

On April 1, officers went to the address at 6 p.m. and the homeowners allowed them inside. Police found the suspect hiding in the basement, arrested him, and charged him with aggravated battery.

He is being held in the Depke Juvenile Detention Center in Vernon Hills.
