Rain to provide relief from pollen

Posted: Updated:

The tree pollen is evident everywhere, and it's so thick it's covering everything from parking lots, decks, cars and even our clothes.

The pollen count for Thursday, 8012, is nearly double Wednesday's count of 4151, and anything above 1500 is considered extremely high. But there may be relief in sight.

FOX 5 Storm Team meteorologist Joanne Feldman says we have rain arriving in the afternoon, and that it will ease the pollen count.

"You've got to have a lot of rain for it to make a difference. Sometimes, if you're only getting a quarter of an inch of rain, it's not going to do much for you at all. But we're predicting that this weather system is going to bring at least 1 to 2 inches of rain across a wide spread area. So at least temporarily, maybe for about a day, it should really bring the number down," said Feldman.

Unfortunately, the relief is only temporary. The tree pollen will come back, and as the season progresses the tree pollen will give way to grass and weed pollens.
