WHEATON, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

Police in Glen Ellyn captured a man who had broken into cars and a garage near a west suburban school district facility on Tuesday.

Charles Johnsen, 24, of the 5700 block of Abbey Drive in Lisle, was charged with one felony count each of burglary and residential burglary, according to a statement from the DuPage County State's Attorney's office. Judge Elizabeth Sexton ordered him held on a $100,000 bond Wednesday.

On Tuesday, Glen Ellyn police responded to a call of a suspicious person near a School District 41 maintenance garage in the 700 block of North Main Street in Glen Ellyn, and found Johnsen, the state's attorney's office said.

One officer began questioning Johnsen, who tried to run away when a second officer arrived, according to the state's attorney's office. He was quickly captured and arrested.

Investigators learned Johnsen entered several unlocked vehicles in the parking lot near the maintenance garage, and stole tools and GPS devices, prosecutors said. He is also accused of breaking into the garage of a nearby home and stealing items from a vehicle parked inside.

Johnsen is next scheduled to appear in court May 6.
