A local dad helped his fiance deliver their baby daughter on the side of the road in nearly freezing temperatures.Early Tuesday, Chelsea Reed started having contractions and felt her baby coming while she and her fiance, Mitchell Miner, were on their way to the hospital."By the time we got through the back roads, Chelsea is at the point where she's screaming, 'We're not going to make it,'" said Mitchell. When Chelsea couldn't wait any longer, Mitchell pulled over on the side of the road, where their baby daughter made their grand entrance."I got out on the road and I couldn't walk so I just laid down," said Chelsea Reed.Mitchell called 911."They asked me if I wanted to deliver this baby. They said, 'Do you want to deliver this baby?' I said no," the 24-year-old new father said.Mitchell not only delivered -- he was about to tie off the cord with his shoe string when firefighters arrived.Even though it wasn't something he prepared for, after the fact, Mitchell says that he wouldn't have had it any other way."It was definitely a highlight of my life. And I'm very thankful it was nighttime so I couldn't see the details," Miner said. The baby, Lacy, weighed 6 pounds and was 18 inches long. Both her and her mother are said to be doing fine.
