Wedding band stolen from home of elderly Lincoln Park woman

Posted: Updated:
LINCOLN PARK, Mich. (WJBK) -

A 90-year-old woman is the victim of a terrifying home invasion. Most of what they stole can be replaced except for one thing and she desperately wants to get that back.

This happened while she was sleeping, and that is a scary thought. A stranger is inside your home while your eyes are closed and you have no idea.

It may not look like anything menacing happened inside this Lincoln Park home but someone broke into this place late Saturday night. They took some of the blocks along the house.

This crook improvised, using stones to pry their way into an elderly woman's personal space. And grabbed a bunch of grandma's belongings.

What did they take? Jewelry, money and her sense of security.

At almost 90 years old, she was getting her rest while some ungrateful thugs were rummaging through what is hers. And this lady's family cannot help but think what if.

"If she woke up when they were here, I don't know what would have happened," said the woman's daughter. "I don't know if these people are professional or amateurs or whatever. Amateurs are the ones you got to worry about."

Still shaken and not ready to show her face. Here is what she told us about what happened.

"It was very devastating, I'll tell you, and nobody should have to go through that. Nobody. To know that somebody has been in your home, I just think God was watching over me."

And her loved ones are, too. Installing a security system in addition to mounting alarms on the windows and doors.

Most of what the thieves stole was costume jewelry, but her wedding ring, they took it.

"I want that ring back very bad."

"We hope somebody has a conscious or a pawn shop turns it up and be able to at least gets the ring back," said the woman's son-in-law.

This was a traumatizing experience for her and her family will be by her side making sure she feels safe. I'll tell you what, she's an absolute doll, she's as sweet and as cute as she can be.
