CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -
A man who may have been the owner of a disabled car parked on the side of the road was killed early Saturday when he was struck by a car as he walked near the disabled car on the Far Northwest Side near O'Hare Airport.
The accident happened about 1:35 a.m. in the 5800 block of North Mannheim Road.
A 21-year-old woman was driving a PT Cruiser south on Mannheim and it may have been cut off by another vehicle, police News Affairs Officer John Mirabelli said. The woman swerved her car from left to right to avoid a crash, and in doing so she struck a pedestrian and a parked Volvo which was disabled, Mirabelli said.
The man she struck may have been the owner of the Volvo, Mirabelli said.
Marek Bajson, 49, died after the accident, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.
The woman remained on the scene and was being questioned by police.
An autopsy Saturday determined Bajson died of multiple injuries from an automobile striking a pedestrian and ruled his death an accident, according to the medical examiner's office.
The police Major Accident Investigation Unit is investigating.
