CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -
Immediately following Tuesday's funeral, family members of a murdered gas station clerk stood before TV news cameras to make an emotional plea about a deadly robbery in the western suburbs.
Andy Jaiswal, 24, was stabbed to death during a robbery while working the overnight shift at Thorntons gas station Saturday in Streamwood. His killer has been on the run for three days and now the CEO of the company is offering a $25,0000 reward in the case.
"He was getting ready to go to a wedding for sister next month," the victim's uncle says. "Everybody was so excited. And, all of a sudden, on Saturday morning...it was unbelievable."
Surveillance images were released of the killer, who wore one light colored shoe and a dark colored shoe with dark-colored clothing covering most of his body.
On Tuesday, authorities with his family made a public plea for information following Jaiswal's funeral.
"Someone out there saw something. Someone out there, heard something and someone out there, knows something," Streamwood Police Chief James Keegan said at a press conference. "Please come forward to bring a sense of closure."
Family members say Jaiswal studied computer science in India and dreamed of a better life in the U.S., with hopes to attend college here. He took the job at the gas station to help support his parents.
Matt Thornton, the CEO of Thorntons, flew in to announce that his company had raised the reward to $25,000 for any information leading to the killer.
"All of us at Thorntons are outraged by this random and senseless act. Andy was an outstanding young man," Thornton said Tuesday.
"I hear about these things on the news all the time, but when it happens to someone my age that I'm related to, that's really scary," Roger Jaiswal, the victim's cousin says. "I don't want to go anywhere right now."
Anyone with information is urged to call Streamwood police at 630-736-3700.
