A 6-year-old boy is recovering after he was attacked by a pit bull inside a local Petsmart store. Now, investigators want to talk with the dog's owner, whom they say took off after the dog bit the child.
David Lane has nine stitches in his nose, but he hasn't lost his good sense of humor. His mom Michelle, however, has been losing sleep since the incident at the Gainesville Petsmart location on Saturday. The Lane family was at the store shopping when they ran into two men with a pit bull on one of the aisles.
Michelle Lane says she petted the dog on the head and he was wagging his tail. She says she didn't think she needed to be afraid until little David reached his hand out, and the dog snapped at him. The little boy told FOX 5 the dog jumped up and bit him in the nose.
With david in the store bleeding and his mother frantically trying to find help, police say the two men brought the dog out into the parking lot and got in their truck to tried to get away. They say a witness to all of this tried to stop the guys, but one of them pulled a gun on that witness and told him to get out of their way.
Gainesville police say the men drove a red, four-door Chevrolet pick up truck with Georgia tag ATW0455. The vehicle is registered out of Forsyth County, and detectives are now looking for both men.
The Lanes say they're more interested in finding the pit bull to make sure it has all of its vaccinations. Michelle Lane says she dreads the thought of her little boy having to get rabies shots after all he's been through, and she'd like to avoid it if possible.
