ATLANTA -
March Madness is coming and this year you don't need to waste paper or time checking your brackets. There's an app for that.
Your smart phone or tablet can now not only help you fill out your brackets, but also keep track of who won and who lost, and how you're doing during all the hoopla. Oh, and you can also keep track of your friend's brackets as well.
About 60 percent of people will fill out brackets this college basketball season according to some surveys.
FOX 5's Doug Evans turned to the experts to find good bracket apps. Verizon Wireless suggested several.
The first one is for Windows phones called Brackets 2013. The best feature is that the app gives live updates so users can pick teams and share with friends instantly. It also updates during games and updates winners in the bracket.
Apple and Android users will also want to shop around for their best fitting app. Reviews, recommendations, and ratings are the three R's when it comes to picking a bracket app. And remember, just because it is popular, does not mean it is the best fit.
If you're more interesting in making predictions on individual games as you watch them, there is an app for that and it allows you to earn reward points for cool stuff. It's called FanCake. The app lists the active and upcoming games and then allows you to make predictions on the winners. Correct predictions can earn points that can be redeemed for prizes such as gift cards or even pizzas. The app is available on Android and Apple devices.
Of course, most are just worried about how to watch the games, especially when you're at work.
A study last year found that fans will watch at least one hour of college hoops while at work during March Madness. Employers are estimated to pay about $175 million to employees who are actually watching those games instead of doing their jobs.
A Belkin TV device can help with your love of the college basketball season. Just hook up the box to your cable and you can stream all the games directly to your tablet or smart phone.
