WOODSTOCK, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) -
A bullet from a rifle fired by a man in his northwest suburban apartment early Friday went through his TV and the walls of his apartment before breaking a window and lodging in the baseboard of a neighbor's dining room.
No one was reported injured in the incident, but the gun owner was charged with reckless discharge of a firearm and criminal damage to property, according to a statement from Woodstock police.
Police got a call about 6 a.m. Friday from a woman in the area of Freemont and Vine streets, and found the damage done to her residence was the result of a bullet being fired into her home, damaging a window and lodging in the baseboard of the dining room.
The woman said she was sleeping in her upstairs bedroom about 2 a.m. when she was awakened by the sound of glass breaking, police said. After not finding anything unusual, she went back to sleep, but when she woke up later, she noticed the broken window.
Police determined the bullet was fired from the upper level apartment of a neighboring residence in the 400 block of Vine Street.
Police learned 22-year-old Paul J. Csech was "manipulating" his Remington 30-06 rifle when, pointed it toward a TV set and pulled the trigger, firing one round. The went through the television, through the wall of his apartment and into the neighboring residence.
Csech, who has a valid FOID, was charged with one count of reckless discharge of a firearm (a Class 4 felony) and one count of criminal damage to property (a Class A misdemeanor), police said. He was in custody at the McHenry County Jail as of early Friday afternoon.
