A Northwest Side man who was discovered to have had a stash of switchblades, brass knuckles, expandable batons and guns in his home after he was arrested for bringing knives into the Daley Center was found guilty of nearly 50 weapons violations Tuesday.
Kevin J. Long didn't take the stand following a nearly three-hour bench trial before Cook County Judge Clayton Crane, according to assistant state's attorney Daniel Groth and Thomas Loftus.
But another prosecutor and Cook County sheriff's lieutenant detailed Long's criminal behavior stemming from the 2010 incidents.
After Long was caught bringing four knives into the Daley Center, sheriff's police and U.S. Marshals raided Long's house on the 4500 block of North Milwaukee Avenue and found 1,600 knives, five guns, seven law enforcement badges, brass knuckles and names of officers with targets by their names.
A source at the time told the Chicago Sun-Times that an officer who lives on Long's block was on the list.
Long -- on the judicial threat watch list -- had been on parole for threatening to kill the 9-year-old daughter of an opposing attorney in a civil case.
He was previously convicted of making harassing phone calls to another 9-year-old girl — the daughter of a Chicago Police officer — who had witnessed Long exposing himself at a park.
Before his 2010 arrest, Long had been arrested 18 times on charges that include being caught in a secure judge's chamber, masturbating in public and violating an order barring him from Northwestern Business College in Skokie.
Long, 51, faces up to seven years in prison on his latest convictions.
