McCarthy wants to adopt New York's 'broken window' policy

Posted: Updated:
CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy wants to adopt a New York-style approach to Chicago's crime problem.

McCarthy wants to use what's called a "broken windows" policy when dealing with offenders. The policy would give police the power to arrest those who ignore tickets for routine offenses such as tickets for public urination and drinking.

McCarthy is asking City Council to pass a special ordinance that will allow police to make those types of arrests.
