Police believe the same man is responsible for more than a half-dozen "smash-and-grab" type burglaries or attempted burglaries of businesses in Aurora over the past week and they are asking for the public's help to track him down.
In all eight incidents, a large brick or rock was used to smash glass exterior doors to several businesses on both the East and West sides of the city, a release from Aurora police said. After he got into the businesses, the burglar either attempts to break open or steal the cash registers, police said.
The crimes have all been committed between about 7:15 p.m. March 8 and 5 a.m. Tuesday, the release said. The total loss including property damage in all of the incidents is approximately $10,500.
After reviewing surveillance cameras at several of the businesses, detectives believe the suspect to be a white male, 5-foot-5 to 6-feet tall and weighing between 170 and 200 pounds. He may be driving a small, four-door compact vehicle similar to a Mitsubishi Lancer.
Police are asking anyone with information to call investigators at (630) 256-5500 or Aurora Area Crime Stoppers at (630) 892-1000. Callers to Crime Stoppers are anonymous and qualify for a cash reward of up to $5,000 for information that leads to any arrests.
