A man was charged in connection with a bank robbery last month in the Loop.
Robert Leslie Shaw, 55, of the 9000 block of South Laflin Street, is charged with robbing the Citibank branch at 180 N. Michigan Ave. at 1:13 p.m. Feb. 28, according to a federal complaint filed in U.S. District Court last week.
Shaw allegedly approached the bank counter fumbled around in his pocket and presented a note to the teller, the complaint said.
He then told the teller, "Follow the note and no one will get hurt. I have a gun," according to the complaint.
The teller allegedly gave Shaw $870 before he fled the bank, the complaint said.
On March 4, an employee at the Citibank branch at 100 N. Michigan Ave. called police to report that the same suspect from the Feb. 28 robbery was loitering in the lobby.
A short time later, officers canvassing the area found Shaw, who matched the description of the robber, three blocks away at a bus stop, the complaint said.
As officers approached, Shaw allegedly took a piece of paper out of his pocket and threw it on the ground, the complaint said.
The note stated, "Stay calm. Nobody get hurt," according to the complaint. The note also demanded money to be counted out in specific denominations.
Shaw was arrested and later the teller positively identified his photo, the complaint said. Bank employees who reviewed the video surveillance recognized Shaw as the same person loitering in the vestibule of the bank minutes before the robbery.
