Chicago's South Side Irish Parade set to begin

Posted: Updated:
CHICAGO (Associated Press) -

A traditional Chicago parade that was once put on hold after complaints of unruly attendees and drinking is set to kick off Sunday

The South Side Irish Parade returned last year after a 2-year hiatus. Parade officials added more security and checkpoints and there were no reports of problems during the scaled-back event. In years past crowds of 100,000 have attended.

The parade has been around Chicago since 1979.

Sunday's event starts at noon on the city's far South Side. Several high school sports teams will participate and parade goers will also honor first responders, police and fire.
