Police hope surveillance photos can help the public identify three men who kidnapped a 70-year-old woman in her southwest suburban driveway Monday night.
Around 10 p.m. the victim pulled into her driveway in the 8200 block of Chestnut Drive in Frankfort Square when she was called over to a gray sedan parked two driveways down with three men inside, Will County Sheriff's police said.
One of the men inside the sedan took out a handgun and told the woman to get in the backseat, while another man took her keys to drive her vehicle.
The two men drove around with the victim and tried using her ATM card, Deputy Chief Ken Kaupas said. After about an hour, the victim was released unharmed near I-57 and 167th St. She walked to a gas station in Country Club Hills where she reported the crime to police. Her vehicle was later found by police.
Kaupas said around 12:30 a.m. Tuesday the three suspects used her credit card at Wal-Mart in Crestwood and investigators retrieved surveillance footage that shows them leaving the store.
Neighbors say the woman who lives alone is now staying with relatives until she feels safe enough to return. The quiet community remains on edge.
"She seems nice and quiet and usually by self," one neighbor said. "The thing in concerned about it is a quiet neighborhood and if someone is targeting us vulnerable people that's unfortunate."
Police believe the suspects targeted the woman because she appeared vulnerable and they may have known that she lived alone. The suspects said to be in their early to mid-20's.
