CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -
One more thing, about going out for a nice weekend run. It was a pleasant jog alongside a quiet suburban road until a car came right at me. The young woman behind the wheel was texting. She looked up just in time to avoid making Robin work by herself for awhile.
We all have stories like that and before there are too many more--that end in tragedy--it's time to do something about it.
State Representative John D'Amico thinks so too. He's sponsoring a bill banning handheld devices statewide, except in emergencies. Drivers would have to use hands-free features or pull off to the side of the road to use a cell phone. Right now there's no uniform law---the city, the suburbs, and many towns in Illinois have different ordinances. It's very confusing and very distracting.
The bill passed the House Friday and now goes to the Senate. A similar proposal died last year. I hope this one doesn't.
When I finally force myself to go out jogging, I expect that it'll be good for my health---not put my life in danger.
