A slick south suburban road is being blame for a crash that left a school bus on its side in a ditch Wednesday morning in Monee, officials said.
Neither the bus driver nor the only passenger, a 12-year-old girl, were injured.
The weather-related accident happened about 7:15 a.m. at Harlem Avenue about one-quarter mile north of Dralle Road in Monee, said Monee Fire Protection District Lt. Kathy Meier..
The driver of the Illinois Central school bus told Will County Sheriff's police that the rear wheels of the bus went off the right side of the road and he lost control and the bus went into a ditch, sheriff's office spokeswoman Kathy Hoffmeyer said. The bus went onto its side and swiped a tree before coming to rest, she said.
The driver and the 12-year-old student, from Crete School District 201U, were treated at the scene, Hoffmeyer said. Neither had to be hospitalized and the girl's mother came to the scene to get her.
The assistant dean of the school also went to the scene, Hoffmeyer said.
The bus driver was not issued any citations, Hoffmeyer said. Meier said roads in the area were slick following Tuesday's snowfall. The bus was later towed away.
