Armed robbers using Craigslist to target iPhone sellers

CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

Police are warning Craigslist users of armed men robbing people looking to sell iPhones on the North Side.

The robbers contact people looking to sell iPhones on Craigslist, and arrange to meet, according to an alert from Area North detectives.

When the "buyers" and sellers meet at a pre-arranged area, the robbers pull a gun, steal the phone and take the victims' wallets, police said.

The first robbery happened about 3:05 p.m. on Jan. 16 in the 600 block of West Surf Street; and the second about 10:45 p.m. in the 2400 block of North Ashland Avenue, police said.

The robbers are described as 18- to 25-year-old black men between 5-foot-7 and 5-foot-10 with a medium complexion, police said. The suspects might be using a black four-door sedan, possibly an Infinity.
