MIDLOTHIAN, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) -
Two young men, 14 and 17, were taken into police custody early Wednesday after a 5-hour standoff following a burglary at a south suburban cell phone store.
Police were called to ABC Wireless at 3328 W. 147th St. in Midlothian for a burglary in progress at 9:14 p.m. Tuesday, a release from Midlothian police said. Two officers saw a suspect climbing through a broken window of the business.
As the officers started to approach the store, they saw two males, who appeared to be juveniles, inside, and one of the suspects was armed, according to police. Police set up a perimeter and the South Suburban Emergency Response Team was notified.
The team arrived at 9:48 p.m. and after attempts to contact the suspects inside the store continually failed, police made their way inside at 2:27 a.m. Wednesday. The two teen suspects were taken into custody without anyone getting injured, police said.
A handgun was recovered by police. The investigation continues Wednesday morning and no charges had been filed as of about 9:30 a.m.
