LAGRANGE, Ga. (AP) - Authorities say five people are dead, including a 1-year-old child, after a head-on crash between two cars in the west Georgia city of LaGrange.
A spokesperson for the Georgia State Patrol tells FOX 5 News that witnesses saw a 1986 Oldsmobile Cutlass passing other cars at high speed and in a no-passing zone when it slammed into a 1995 Pontiac GrandAm moving the opposite direction.
The impact killed both drivers - 28-year-old Willie Hooks in the Oldsmobile and 23-year-old Melanie Kay Lemmon in the Pontiac. Also killed were three passengers in the Pontiac identified as Miranda L. Hurston, Tridarius Harrison and 1-year-old Quamauri C. Harrison.
The Georgia State Patrol says two teenage passengers were airlifted in critical condition to hospitals in Atlanta and Columbus.
State Patrol spokesman Gordy Wright says investigators suspect Hooks had been drinking.
