First Lady Michelle Obama will attend Hadiya Pendleton's funeral on Saturday.
The 15-year-old was on her way to living a life without violence and had just taken her exams at King College Prep when she was fatally shot in a park near her school. The park is located near the Obama's old home in Kenwood.
Pendleton was killed just one week after attending President Obama's inauguration in Washington, where she performed with the band.
The 15-year-old's death, in the wake of the Sandy Hook mass shooting in Connecticut, sparked a national debate on gun violence.
FOX 32 has learned that the first lady and other politicians will not be allowed to speak. The family wants to make sure the day is filled with celebrating Hadiya's life and nothing else.
Senior adviser to the president Valerie Jarrett and Secretary of Education Arne Duncan will accompany Mrs. Obama to the funeral on Saturday.
A long line of mourners gathered Friday afternoon at Calaghan Funeral Home on the South Side to pay their respects to 15-year-old Hadiya Pendleton.
On Thursday, South Side residents and King students held a vigil in Pendleton's honor.
