A man from Argentina thought he had purchased "toy poodles," but later discovered they were ferrets on steroids. The Huffington Post reports the victim bought each so-called dog for $150 at La Salada market, however, when he brought them to a veterinarian, he learned they were actually rodents.
The report says Illinois State Representative Will Davis wants to add 25 cents to every sneaker purchase to raise money for a youth job program in the state. He says the tax would bring in an estimated $3 million.
The proposal is not a shoe-in. The merchants association in Illinois says they will fight the proposal.
Special taxes on products in the state are not new. Illinois residents have been paying a $2.50 fee on tire purchases for years, says the report.
