Toppling trees damage Decatur homes

DECATUR, Ga. -

Strong winds brought in by Wednesday's storms are causing problems for people in Decatur. Several trees were knocked over, damaging several homes.

With the combination of high winds, aging trees and a saturated ground, crews and homeowners dealt with the aftermath of the storms on Thursday.

A family of one home hit by a tree on Cambridge Avenue in Decatur was put up in a hotel by the American Red Cross on Wednesday night, and came to survey the damage on Thursday morning.

"Well, actually what goes through my head is one, how thankful that I am that it wasn't more severe, and I don't believe there's any injuries on the other street as well, as on our street, but we actually had a house come -- a tree come down on our house eight years ago, so we've experienced it before, and we weren't as lucky that time and had to move out for about nine months," said homeowner Jeff Guthrie.

A home on Feld Avenue was also damaged, as well as a garage on Third Avenue.

A High Wind Advisory remains in effect until 4 p.m.
