CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -
A firefighter and a 70-year-old woman were hospitalized after a fire broke out in Rogers Park Wednesday morning.
The firefighter suffered minor injuries, Fire Media Affairs said, and the woman had a shortness of breath. Both were transported to St. Francis Hospital in Evanston in "stable" but serious condition, Fire Media Affairs said.
The blaze erupted at a two-story building in the 6900 block of North Greenview Avenue about 5:10 a.m. and was extinguished just before 7 a.m., Fire Media Affairs said.
The fire was found in the basement and the first and second floors of the building.
About an hour after firefighters arrived at the building, the Chicago Fire Department ordered all residents to evacute the building due to unstable floors, Fire Media Affairs said.
Because of the fire, the Chicago Transit Authority's eastbound No. 96 Lunt and No. 155 Devon buses were rerouted to North Ashland Avenue, West Greenleaf Avenue and North Sheridan Road, according to an alert from the transit agency.
Further information was not immediately available.
