Georgia Power prepared for possible severe weather

Georgia Power is keeping a watchful eye on a severe weather system that is expected to roll through metro Atlanta on Wednesday.
Crews say they're ready if the severe weather causes power outages in metro Atlanta.
"All of our employees are ready to go and on standby if anything were to occur tomorrow and we'll be ready to get the lights back on should the power go out," said Georgia Power spokesperson Brian Green.
Green says monitoring the weather is part of what they do at Georgia Power. They'll be keeping a keen eye on the storm system.
"We have a storm center here on sight and a team of folks who are constantly monitoring weather and ready to get our crews out to any outages that occur," Green said.
Georgia Power has more than 70 operating headquarters throughout the state. It's where the linemen would respond to any potential weather outages.
"Sometimes we have broken poles and sometimes we just can't get the lights on as fast as we would necessarily like. But we're always in the field working as hard as we possibly can to get our crews dispatched and get them to the troubled areas as quickly as possible," Green said.
Green says there are some steps you can take to keep you and your family safe if the lights go out during a weather event.
"You can maintain the temperature in your home for about 48 hours should you lose power if you keep your doors and windows closed during an event," Green said.
If you run across a downed power line, just leave it to the experts at Georgia Power.
"You never know if that power line is live so be sure to always stay away from downed power lines," Green said.
