DETROIT (WJBK) -- General Motors' Wintergarden provided the perfect backdrop for the final stop of the Tigers' Winter Caravan as hundreds of fans gathered to catch a glimpse of the boys of summer.
"First and foremost, I always enjoy coming out here and seeing the fans. It seems like every year they get more and more excited about [the] baseball season and rightful so. I think we get a better and better team every year," said Justin Verlander.
About a dozen players took part in an hour long program that included a question and answer session with fans. A recurring topic of conversation was the team's unfinished business from the end of last season.
"Getting there I think has left a little bit of a taste in our mouth that we want to win four more post-season games. That's what our goal is," said General Manager Dave Dombrowski.
"After the World Series, especially 2013, I'm definitely going to relax all of November. I'm going to play golf, even though I suck," said outfielder Torii Hunter.
"As tight as we were at the end of the year, and it seems like Torii has just stepped right into it," said pitcher Phil Coke.
There is a lot of buzz and questions about a World Series title. I asked pitcher Doug Fister whether that is too much of an expectation.
"That's how we want to approach the season. We come in every day approaching it to win. If we're not expecting to win the World Series, we're playing for the wrong reason."
But there were also plenty of laughs when it came to the topic of Max Scherzer's pre-game superstitions.
"Pre-game sandwich is probably a roast beef sandwich," he said. "When it's cold out, I have to wear my shorts backwards. I don't know why. It just works."
The final act on the final stop of the Tigers' Winter Caravan was posing for a team photo in the Chevy exhibit. The only thing missing was the World Series championship trophy they hope to add by this time next year.
