CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -
The family of one of the men killed in a Tuesday high-rise fire in the South Shore neighborhood filed a petition Thursday seeking the building's records in preparation for a possible lawsuit.
John Fasula, of the 3800 block of South Lowe Avenue, was pronounced dead at Jackson Park Hospital at 9:45 a.m. Tuesday following the three-alarm fire in the South Shore neighborhood, authorities said.
Another man was killed and a third critically injured in the fire.
Fasula, 50, was working in the building in the 6700 block of South Shore Drive when the fire started, according to the petition for discovery filed in Cook County Circuit Court.
He helped a tenant away from the fire and then went back to look for others and was overcome by smoke, according to the petition.
Patricia Fasula, administrator for his estate, seeks access to the building and ownership, maintenance and equipment records for the family's lawyers and experts. The petition also seeks the 911 recordings, Chicago Fire Department and Chicago Police Department reports pertaining to the fire.
