ATLANTA -

Was she or wasn't she? Beyonce's rendition of the national anthem was one of the memorable moments of inauguration day, but now everyone is wondering if it was lip-synced.

Renowned Atlanta voice coach Jan Smith, who has worked with everyone from Usher to Justin Bieber, said people should take it easy on Beyonce.

"Beyonce is a consummate professional. She is one of those singers who clearly has delivered time and time again live. Why people are giving her flack, I don't really understand," said Smith.

At her DeKalb County recording studio, Smith told FOX 5's Justin Gray that singing outside in the cold brings all kinds of challenges and the most important thing for an event like the inauguration is that the performance be perfect.

"The moment was more important than whether she was singing live or not and that's the truth. Did anybody get robbed of the moment? I don't think so," Smith said.

There have been conflicting statements from the Marine Corps Band about the performance. Beyonce herself isn't talking.

"It was a great performance, regardless, and it was really her, whether it was synced or not," said Smith.
