DETROIT (WJBK) -- GAC Group, one of the leading automotive brands in China, brought three cars for the American auto consumer to see -- the Trumpchi four wheel drive hybrid, the Trumpchi GS5 compact and the electric E-jet concept car.
The goal of GAC in being at the North American International Auto Show is to gauge American interest and see if, in fact, these cars can be competitive within the United States.
Several years ago, there where five Chinese automakers at the Detroit auto show pledging to build and sell cars in the U.S.
In 2013, GAC Group is the only Chinese automaker on hand, but they, too, pledge to sooner rather than later build and sell cars in the United States. GAC Group has built a relationship with Chrysler and calls it crucial in moving forward.
