CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

An armed man who has robbed hair salons in Chicago and several suburbs struck again Monday, this time robbing a beauty salon in north suburban Niles.

The suspect entered a beauty salon in the 8200 block of West Golf Road at 11:35 a.m., according to Niles police Sgt. Robert Tornabene. He carried a handgun and one of three employees in the salon gave him money from the register. No one was injured.

Hair Cuttery's district manager, Socorro Cepeda, spoke on behalf of the stylist who left for the day.

"The robber came in with a gun pointed it at the stylist and demanded the money," Cepeda explained.

No customers were inside during the robbery. Cepeda says this is the third Hair Cuttery salon that has been robbed in recent weeks.

"They thought that it was a customer and he was a customer when he came in," Cepeda says. "As much as we've made them aware that this guy might be out there, they are pretty alert on making sure they're looking out for this guy, but you know, he looked like a typical client when he came in."

Melissa Palka works a few steps away from the salon and saw the commotion outside.

"I think I was here when it happened. We saw everybody pull up and we had no idea what was going on. It's scary because it could have been us. It could have been any of the businesses here," Palka says.

The suspect was described as a man in his 30s, 5-foot-10 and 200 pounds, Tornabene said. He was last seen wearing black sunglasses and a black hooded jacket.

The same suspect is believed to have robbed a beauty salon in the 5600 block of Touhy Avenue in Niles on Dec. 28, Tornabene said. He also robbed a Supercuts at 3539 Dempster St. in Skokie last Thursday, police said.

A man wearing a black hooded sweatshirt entered that salon, pulled a handgun and demanded money, then ran away. No one was injured.

An employee of the Skokie salon recognized the suspect as the man pictured in a police alert which had been sent to area salons after the suspect struck at salons in Chicago, Bensenville, Lombard, Skokie, Niles, Glen Ellyn and Morton Grove, according to police.
