CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

A Daily Herald photographer found tulips blooming near the Northwest Highway in Arlington Heights.

This is a big indicator of just how warm it's been.

Experts say you can slow down the sprouting by covering plants with straw, or even the branches of a Christmas tree.

What this does is keep the plants in the dark, which helps them remain dormant.
