CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -
One more thing, about the new plans for Wrigley Field and the area around it.
The Cubs presented preliminary renderings at a West Lake View neighbors meeting last night. The players will be happy about locker room renovations and a new batting cage under the grandstands. The fans will like the additional restrooms and concession stands.
But the biggest change will be outside the ballpark. One concept for the area just west of Wrigley Field includes an outdoor movie screen, an ice rink, and a large courtyard that could be used for farmers markets. Where McDonalds is now, a hotel and retail area is envisioned. They still have to figure out where the money to build all this is going to come from.
The best news to come out of last night's community meeting? The Cubs say cosmetic upgrades will transform the stadium back to what it looked like in 1935—like one photo shows during the World Series against the Tigers. It would be nice if they took the electronic sign off the old marquis and made it look like that again.
Although I'd settle for just seeing some meaningful October games on that sign, if you know what I mean. Oh, and Detroit won the series that year---four games to two. Thank you for asking.
