CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -
One more thing, about the Oscar nominations. They'll be announced Friday morning at 7:30.
The other day I tweeted what I called my review of every movie this year: "it should have been a half hour shorter. Didn't need the chase scene. And the ending could have been more satisfying. "
One reply I got said, "Yeah I hated that chase scene in Lincoln." At the risk of provoking more smart-Alecks, here are my capsule comments on a few of the movies the academy will probably honor Thursday.
"Argo" had it all. High drama, comedy, and a tense story based on actual events. What more could you want?
"Silver Linings Playbook" was extremely well-acted but too depressing. I go to the movies to escape the problems of real life.
"Flight" is so much more than just a movie with spectacular special effects. It has those, but it's only a small part of this terrific character-study flawlessly acted by Denzel Washington. Just don't see it before you fly anywhere.
"Django Unchained" is not the best Tarentino film and if you're not a fan of the director's comic book violence, save your money.
I hear a lot of people say that when it comes to "Les Miserables," you either love it or hate it. There's no in-between. I disagree. There's another category: those who refuse to even see it (that's me).
The movie I can't wait to see is "Zero Dark Thirty." It's frustrating that they publicize it so much before it even opens in most cities---including Chicago.
