Thugs target Detroit veteran who witnessed crime

DETROIT (WJBK) -- A military veteran says a group of teens fired shots into his home, nearly striking him in the head, after he witnessed them break in to a nearby store.

James Flemming, 66, manages an apartment complex on the city's east side. Early Monday morning, he yelled out to a group of teens smashing into a store across the street. They scattered, but returned a short time later with guns and fired shots into his apartment.

"Three inches from my head," says Flemming. "I'd rather be in the military then be out there. This here is a war zone."

Flemming says this isn't the first time he's been targeted by the teens. "I'm going to arm myself," says Flemming. "The next time I get shot at, I'm going to shoot back."

Detroit police tell FOX 2 they're investigating the incident.
