CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

A 25-year-old woman was charged after the fatal stabbing of her mother during a domestic dispute Sunday in the South Chicago neighborhood.

Lonika Welch, of the 8300 block of South Kingston Avenue, was charged with one count of first-degree murder, according to police News Affairs.

Authorities found the 55-year-old mother had been stabbed multiple times when they responded to her home in the 8300 block of South Kingston Avenue about 6:45 p.m. Saturday night, authorities said.

Paramedics took Angela Welch to Northwestern Memorial Hospital where she was pronounced dead at 7:26 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

Her daughter, a suspect in the slaying, initially fled but was taken into police custody early Sunday, police News Affairs Officer Amina Greer said.

Area South detectives are investigating the death as a homicide.

Welch is expected Monday in bond court.
