Hearing scheduled for man who stabbed Bears fan to death

CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -
A pretrial hearing date of Jan. 15 is scheduled for the Florida man accused of fatally stabbing a Lake Villa Bears fan to death, according to Duval County, Fla., records.
Matthew Reid Hinson, 28, is facing second-degree murder charges for allegedly stabbing William Christopher Pettry to death Oct. 7 at an eatery in Jacksonville, Fla.
Charges against him have not been upgraded at this time, according to Duval County State's Attorney spokeswoman Jackelyn Barnard. She had said the investigation is open and that charges may be upgraded.
Hinson has pleaded not guilty to the murder. He faces up to life in prison if convicted.
Hinson is represented by the Public Defender's Office in Jacksonville. He has appeared in Duval County court more than 30 times since his arrest.
He remains in custody at Duval County Jail without bond.
