The new Clayton County Board of Commissioners had their first meeting on Wednesday night, and it wasn't without fireworks. They start the new year by firing the county manager.
The meeting began with cheering, but it didn't last long. The board ended up divided 3-2 on most of its issues, with newly-elected chairman Jeff Turner leading the slim majority. The biggest of those 3-2 votes came when the board fired county manager Wade Starr. His job ends immediately, but he'll be paid the remaining $90,000 of his contract, which some call a waste of money.
The board also voted to remove former Commissioner Wole Ralph's name from a soon-to-be-opened recreation center. Ralph lost his seat last November, and the decision to remove his name overturns a community contest picking the rec center's name.
