CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -
The Cook County prosecutor charged with biting a worker outside a Lakeview lingerie store is about to be in even more trouble.
Her misdemeanor battery case was dropped today, but FOX 32 News has learned the Attorney General plans to file new, more serious charges against Sarah Naughton in the next several days. Naughton's misdemeanor battery trial was scheduled for today, but was dropped after a last minute move by the Attorney General's office, which is handling the case since Naughton works for the Cook County State's Attorney's office.
Naughton was charged with misdemeanor battery after a late-night incident outside the Taboo Tabou lingerie store in Lakeview back in September. Mark Thomas, who owns Taboo Tabou and the cigar shop next door, says Naughton and another man were drunk, and his employees asked the two to leave.
After they finally did, Thomas says the two shouted obscenities and pounded on the windows.
When the manager of the cigar store came out to help, Thomas says Naughton bit that man on the leg.
He says that warrants more serious charges.
"I think it's a felony. It broke the skin. He ended up with a hairline crack in his knee. He got hurt. He's still limping around. He's still hurt," Thomas said.
Naughton's attorney, Rick Beuke, disagrees.
"I'm sure Mr. Thomas, if he's consistent with the way he's acted throughout this entire case, would hope that that's the case, but we don't believe there's any merit at all into additional charges, or any upgrading of any charges," Beuke said.
A spokesman for Attorney General Lisa Madigan issued a statement, saying in part: "We have determined that it is appropriate to seek additional charges. We will be filing new charges in the next several days."
Thomas has been asking for more charges all along.
"I am thrilled to death," he said.
Naughton is on administrative duty at the Cook County State's Attorney's office, which means she is not trying cases.
