Evanston bakery on brink of closure gets Christmas miracle

CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

Rosemarie O'Carroll needed a Christmas miracle; otherwise her 5-year-old bakery, Rose's Wheat Free Bakery & Café, was going to close on Christmas Eve.

"I thought that was it, they're going to foreclose on the building. So I sent out a letter to all my customers," O'Carroll says.

That miracle came in the form of a $200,000 check from Marcus Lemonis, the CEO of Camping World.

"They'd really served the community and I felt like they needed to have it paid back to them," Lemonis says.

As a customer, Lemonis offered the O'Carroll's a deal: a $200,000 check and $150,000 in a working capital line.

"As most Americans, they're worried about losing their job, their home, their car, they're in credit card debt," Lemonis explains. "So we came up with a plan that not only fixed the business, but got them out of debt, personally."

O'Carroll says this Christmas gift still hasn't settled in yet.

"It's really just been completely overwhelming," says O'Carroll. "Because we went from ok, we're closing our doors and everyone, I have 22 employees that were all going to be out of work. Now, not only do they have jobs, but we're going to be able to provide health care."

The family can focus on providing people with gluten free food options and keep their many customers happy for years to come.

Right now, O'Carroll is turning her attention to Christmas.

"I still have to buy Christmas presents. I haven't bought any, but we'll get there," Rosemarie says. "We're going to have Christmas. The kids are happy, my husband is happy, we're all good."

Lemonis says this isn't a charitable giving, but more of a business transaction right around the holidays.

If you ask anyone in the bakery, they'd tell you it feels as though Christmas came a bit early this year.
