CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -
Metra service is back to normal after a derailment downtown caused temporary delays on three different lines. No one was hurt.
Wheels on the second and third cars of the Metra train left the tracks, but all of the cars remained upright near 155 N. Canal St., just north of the Ogilvie Transportation Center. The train appeared to be pulling at least six cars.
The train had no passengers aboard, and was headed to Union Station to become an outbound train, Metra spokesman Tom Miller said. It was moving "pretty slowly" when two of the train cars jumped the rails, and none of the crew members were hurt.
Chicago Fire Department officials confirmed no one was injured in the derailment.
Trains on the North Central Service and Milwaukee West and North lines saw temporary delays up to 25 minutes, but are running normally again as of about 7:30 p.m., Metra's website said.
A track switch also broke during the derailment, according to the website.
One train, outbound train No. 2245 headed from Chicago to Elgin on the Milwaukee District West line, had to be canceled, the website said. Another train was scheduled to accommodate its passengers.
