South Shore drill team needs $45K to go to Obama inauguration

CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

Chicago's South Shore drill team was invited to perform at President Obama's inauguration parade in Washington. But the team must raise $45,000 for the trip.

The team's director said they plan to reach out to major funders, but also could use the community's help to raise the money.

The team is made up of about 300 young people. Only the 50 most senior members will be sent to Washington.

The estimated construction costs for the president's second inauguration will be more than $2 million.

Construction of the viewing stand is already underway on Capitol Hill. The stand will be finished just before the ceremony, on Monday, Jan. 21.
