Maine West coaches say they were unaware of hazing, one fired

Posted: Updated:
CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

Two coaches at Maine West High School said they had no idea any hazing was going on there.

The Chicago Sun-Times reports statements made by Coaches Michael Divincenzo and Emilio Rodriguez conflict with what some victims have told police.

A lawsuit filed last month claims Maine West officials and coaches knew about the hazing, but failed to stop it.

The Maine West school board has also voted to fire one of two coaches - Mike Divincenzo. He is accused of failing to report or punish soccer players for hazing younger athletes.

Divincenzo is suspended without pay for now. A second coach has also been on leave without pay.

Both men deny the accusations.

The Cook County State's Attorney is reviewing the case, and both coaches face several lawsuits.
