Pistons deliver smiles to sick teen, longtime fan

Pistons Center Andre Drummond, brings a big smile to 18 year-old Shelby Sherwin's face, even after she admits to him her favorite player is Tayshaun Prince.

This is a rare treat for the devoted Pistons fan who could use some good news. Life hasn't been easy for Shelby. The Lake Orion girl was born with a heart defect and now has a rare form of arthritis that's causing calcium to build up in her body and she's halfway through kidney failure.

"They only gave her a one percent chance at birth to live, but due to her doctors being so amazing, every Christmas and every holiday are blessings for us," said Shelby's mother, Bethany McGovney.

Since she was old enough to talk Shelby has loved the Pistons.  So when we told the team that her health was deteriorating, they stepped up and gave Shelby and her family VIP treatment at a game including a special hello from her favorite, Tayshaun Prince.

No one knows how much time is left for Shelby, but this family does know one thing, you have to appreciate everyday.  Perhaps a good lesson for all of us.

Her father, John Goldman said, "It's difficult but we're making the best of it, she's still here and we're making everyday count."
