Attention is now turning to 46-year old Jonathan Jackson, the third-born child of the famous Civil Rights leader. The New York Daily News first speculated last September that Jonathan might seek his brother's 2nd District seat. Sources tell Fox 32 News that Jonathan has discussed a possible campaign with local ministers and community leaders.
When FOX 32's Mike Flannery reached Reverend Jesse Jackson in New York, where he was attending a fundraising concert for victims of Super Storm Sandy, he said he was surprised to hear that Jonathan Jackson has discussed running.
"We haven't talked about that. This is the first I've heard of it," the Reverend said.
Jonathan Jackson did not attend a crowded candidates' forum in Chicago Heights Wednesday night. About 150 Bloom Township Democrats heard from at least eight other congressional hopefuls, including Donne Trotter, Deb Halvorson, Robin Kelly, Toi Hutchinson and David Miller.
The 2nd District's top Democrats will gather Saturday to see if they can agree on one candidate.
