Police are probing an attempted abduction of a 12-year-old girl in southwest Atlanta on Monday morning. Atlanta police say the alleged incident happened in the area of Camilla Street and St. Jose Street at around 8:20 a.m.
Police say the girl told them she walking to school when she noticed a black man following her. When she approached the streets, the suspect placed what felt like a handgun to her back and told her not to scream. She says the suspect then ordered her to walk to a nearby house where he asked her for money.
She said she didn't have any and offered her phone instead. The suspect then told her to take off her pants. She says the suspect turned and she knocked the gun out of his hand. She ran and screamed for help.
A person nearby helped the girl, say police, and saw the suspect running away. Police did not find the suspect after a search of the area.
Police say the victim told them that suspect sometimes hangs out in the neighborhood. They say they are working to identify the suspect.
